Who is Health Reform USA?
Health Reform USA is a voluntary non-profit 501 (C)(4) education and advocacy organization comprised of health professionals with decades of experience in healthcare. Our members include:

  • Physicians, nurses and other clinical professionals who see the impact of our fragmented system on our patients and know that we need change.
  • Hospital and clinic administrators who are burdened with a morass of administrative rules and requirements that limit our ability to run our organizations effectively and efficiently.
  • Policy experts and academics who have studied the current system for decades and are convinced that with some political will, we can make meaningful and sustainable positive change for all Americans, and...
  • Current and past insurance executives who are committed to universal coverage and believe that the system can be improved dramatically through comprehensive reform.
We are Democrats, Republicans and Independents all committed to a non-partisan cause – healthcare for all Americans.

Why has your organization formed?
As health care professionals, we are well aware of the current problems with the American health care system. We live those problems every day. Moreover, we fundamentally understand the public policy complexities of a health care system that is, at best, a patchwork of public programs and private enterprise. We must work within that complex structure to enact a health reform program that provides health insurance for all Americans.

What is your position on health reform?
Our organization was not formed to advocate for a specific comprehensive reform strategy, rather, we believe that as the health reform debate emerges during the next Congress, many reform proposals are likely to emerge. Our mission is to evaluate and comment on those proposals based on our experience as health care professionals and guided by a set of overarching principles that bring us together.

We believe that:
• Healthcare coverage should be universal.
• Healthcare coverage should be continuous.
• Healthcare coverage should be affordable to individuals and families.
• Any reform proposal should be affordable and sustainable for society.
• Changes should build on the existing private and public health insurance programs not through a single public payer system.
• Healthcare coverage should enhance health and well-being by promoting access to high-quality care that is effective, efficient, safe, timely, patient centered, and equitable.

What does your organization bring to this debate?
Our organization brings understanding and clarity without any political overlay. We can cut through the rhetoric and platitudes. As health professionals and executives with decades of research and management experience we believe that, through our analyses and advocacy, we can help guide the reform of the healthcare insurance and delivery system.
